My grandiloquent rant about ideas notwithstanding, nothing of course beats calculation, and candidate moves, tunnel vision and visualization are crucial skills I need to work on more seriously. Writing down the lines seems to make senses for serious study; I might give that a try next time I approach a puzzle or position.
